This e-learning platform contains the following e-learning modules:

e-learning module for primary school children

e-learning module for secondary school students

e-learning module for adults (members of the general public)

e-learning module for professionals from fire and rescue services

Each module contains educational content tailored to each target group and is divided into four units: floods, storms, heat waves, and wildfires. Each unit is divided into three parts: prevention, preparedness, and response.

The e-learning modules for primary school children and secondary school students can be used in different ways:

They can be used individually by each student without any help from the teacher. If the students are comfortable and have a basic level of skill and understanding in how to use computers and websites, they may be able to view the platform independently on their own at home or during an IT lesson.

If the students are very young or if their computer skills are less developed, the presentations within the platform can be presented to a class by a teacher. It is recommended that teachers should familiarise themselves with the material prior to presenting to students. This type of lesson format will allow students to ask questions concerning the information presented. The teacher may be able to answer using the material provided, but the E-PPR Project team can be contacted for further information and clarity if required.

The platform is also suitable as a tool and guide for group work. Teachers can present the material to a group of students and work through the material together, asking questions and discussing individual topics as they progress and then completing some or all of the tasks at the end of the unit. This approach allows students the possibility to discuss the topic and take a more active involvement in the learning process.

The practical tasks at the end of the units include exercises which can be done both individually and as a group. There are also tasks for work in pairs or small groups. Some of the tasks may also be suitable for homework. It is recommended that teachers familiarise themselves with the tasks before presenting them to students. Most tasks can be modified and changed to fit the needs of a certain group or school. We recommend that the tasks are not taken too seriously and that play and discussion are built into each activity as far as possible. This can help the students to better understand the individual topics and key messages. Word search tasks can be printed out and handed to students, or students could be tasked with creating their own word searches using pencil and paper or online word-search generators. The activities include on the platform are just a few ideas – there are endless possibilities. The E-PPR partners welcome any suggestions for new activities that could be added to the platform in future.

Most of the units have links to additional information or web pages which support the content of the unit. It is recommended that students use these links in order to get learn more about specific topics using materials that are easily accessible on the Internet.

The e-learning modules for adults and professionals from fire and rescue services have been designed for self-learning. Therefore, anyone interested in learning on how to prevent, be better prepared, and respond to natural disasters, can independently access the platform, navigate through, learn and test the learning outcomes using the online questionnaires.

This platform is free to use and no registration/logins are required.
